Music Program

Music at MBE: Where Every Note Inspires a Story

At Mary Bergeron Elementary, music is more than just a subject — it’s a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection. We believe that every child deserves the chance to find their voice, feel the rhythm, and experience the joy that only music can bring. That’s why our music program is built on a rich, developmental approach that nurtures not just musicianship, but imagination, confidence, and community.

Led by a passionate and skilled music educator, our program blends the elements of music, movement, drama, and speech to create an immersive learning experience. Students sing, move, play, listen, compose, and express themselves in ways that connect to both heart and mind.

What We Teach

  • Musical Literacy: Students learn to read and write music, understand rhythm patterns, identify notes on the staff, and explore dynamics and tempo through engaging, hands-on activities.
  • Instrument Exploration: From glockenspiels and xylophones to ukuleles, recorders, and handbells, students are introduced to a wide variety of instruments — learning proper technique while developing an appreciation for different timbres and textures.
  • Creative Expression: Our learners don’t just follow the music — they help shape it. Through improvisation, body percussion, dramatic storytelling, and composition, students discover their unique musical identities.
  • Global Sounds: Music is a window to the world. Our students experience songs, dances, and rhythms from diverse cultures, developing a deep respect for global traditions and styles.

Why It Matters

Research consistently shows that music education enhances brain development, boosts academic achievement, strengthens emotional intelligence, and fosters essential life skills such as collaboration, discipline, and resilience. But beyond the data, we know this: music moves kids — it helps them belong, express, grow, and thrive.

At MBE, we are proud to offer a music program that hits all the right notes — building not only skills, but memories that will echo far beyond the classroom.
